During 2009, the City commemorates another 50 years of progress by celebrating its sesquicentennial. While Providence City has always prided itself on being progressive, the last 50 years have been transformative. Change, however, is a constant part of progress. Even early settlers to Providence did not embark to create a static community. Guided by faith and empowered by a strong work ethic, these pioneers were intent on building vibrant, growing communities, in a belief that they were fulfilling a righteous mandate to establish a new Zion in the West.

Providence and Her People contains over 200 photos, maps, and other items in its 278 pages that show Providence growing through the years of 1859 to 2009. They illustrate and depict the beautiful city of Providence, "A Providential Place".
