During 2009, the City commemorates another 50 years of progress by celebrating its sesquicentennial. While Providence City has always prided itself on being progressive, the last 50 years have been transformative. Change, however, is a constant part of progress. Even early settlers to Providence did not embark to create a static community. Guided by faith and empowered by a strong work ethic, these pioneers were intent on building vibrant, growing communities, in a belief that they were fulfilling a righteous mandate to establish a new Zion in the West.
